Day two, a little rain...

Image
Last night we had some pretty bad storms here in Drexel Hill, PA.  In fact, the lightening was pretty bright too, however the thunder wasn't tool loud.  Many of the campers were very tired from their first day here.       As per the usual, we opened up the day with a little breakfast and then daily Mass.  We had a visiting priest who is the Aux. Bishop of Veterans Services for the United States.  He just happened to be home this week (he is from Philly) and accepted the invite from the camp to say Mass this morning.       I've posted some pictures of some of the work done by a few of our groups today.  Sheila, one of our chaperones from the Newton group, lead the rosary today which was offered up to the victims of the horrible tragedy this past weekend in Newton.  We had a very strong showing.  I included a picture of this.  Mind you, this is a completely optional thing for kids in the camp to come to; it's an extra activity for them.  We had campers from other groups

Work Begins!     We started the day off with breakfast at 6:15 am.  Although this isn't exactly the Ritz, they certainly do a great job providing nutritious food, and plenty of it, to help us maintain high energy levels throughout the day.   After daily Mass this morning, we departed for our worksites.  I've included some pictures that I received from various chaperones in our group today.  My group is working at a Marine Corps Veterans center, and it happened to have a museum on the second floor.  One of the caretakers of the building gave us a tour of it today and the kids seemed to love it.  The theme of our camp is 'Made for More'.  The discussions throughout the day centered around building connection, and finding ways to include God in more parts of our lives outside of church.   As part of our last program for the evening, we gathered as a youth group and had some group discussion time.  Each camper received a carabiner (one of those rock climbing clips) and we

Catholic Heart Workcamp Drexel Hill, PA 2023      We were able to celebrate Mass yesterday at the 4 pm Mass and received a wonderful send-off blessing from Father James.  We were all honored to be able to be there for his first official Mass as a newly ordained priest.       After Mass, we got a few group pictures and sent everyone home.  We had to be at the church at 4:45 am for a 5 am departure.  It was a pretty early morning for us!     We all made it on the bus in anticipation for our annual breakfast stop at Cracker Barrel.   When we arrived at camp, we were able to meet up with our work groups and spend some time with them getting to know each other.  Each group is comprised of roughly 6-7 people, and each person is from a different youth group from a different part of the country.  The experience encourages some to step outside their comfort zone and grow new friendships, grow in faith, and have some fun learning about new connections.
