Day One at Catholic Heart Workcamp

 Work Begins!

We started the day off with breakfast at 6:15 am.  Although this isn't exactly the Ritz, they certainly do a great job providing nutritious food, and plenty of it, to help us maintain high energy levels throughout the day.

After daily Mass this morning, we departed for our worksites.  I've included some pictures that I received from various chaperones in our group today.  My group is working at a Marine Corps Veterans center, and it happened to have a museum on the second floor.  One of the caretakers of the building gave us a tour of it today and the kids seemed to love it.

The theme of our camp is 'Made for More'.  The discussions throughout the day centered around building connection, and finding ways to include God in more parts of our lives outside of church.

As part of our last program for the evening, we gathered as a youth group and had some group discussion time.  Each camper received a carabiner (one of those rock climbing clips) and we went around in a circle sharing the answer to a question.  Once answered, each camper would clip their carabiner to their neighbor's and eventually it made a long chain of carabiners.  The question to answer was "How can you strengthen your connections with others and God while you are here at camp, and how can will continue that at home?"

I loved hearing the answers to these questions.  I was so filled with joy at hearing so many deep, personal, and profoundly insightful thoughts from the group.
